Dr. R. Duane Cespedes is Associate Professor of Urology at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Co-Director of the Women's Center for Pelvic Health at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. His practice is dedicated to the treatment of male and female incontinence, pelvic floor prolapse, disorders of urination, and neurologic issues affecting the urinary tract.
Dr. Cespedes comes to Johns Hopkins from Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio after retiring from the US Air Force. He is the former chairman and residency program director of the Urology Department and former chairman of the Institutional Research Board.
Dr. Cespedes received his undergraduate degree in biology from Towson University and a degree in medicine from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Washington, DC, graduating as the class valedictorian. He performed a Urology residency in San Antonio and subsequently performed a fellowship in female urology, incontinence, voiding dysfunction, and urodynamics with Dr. Edward McGuire at the University of Texas in Houston.
He has been active both clinically and academically having published over 100 book chapters and medical articles and has received many awards for his work including the Paul Zimskind award for excellence in Female Urology and Urodynamics. His current areas of research interest include urodynamics, vaginal prolapse conditions and the treatment of male and female incontinence using minimally invasive treatments including bulking agents and Botox injections.
